Kennemer Wonen is a housing corporation in the North-Kennemerland region. Kennemer Wonen rents, improves and builds affordable and energy efficient rental housing in the municipalities of Alkmaar, Bergen, Castricum, Heiloo and Uitgeest. By providing 1,500 single-family houses and 500 apartments with solar panels on an annual basis, Kennemer Wonen has been taking steps in the field of affordability of rental housing for the social target group. In addition, this measure leads to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions for a contribution to a better environment.
Affordable living
Kennemer Wonen installs solar panels on its rental properties without a rent increase. The tenants benefit directly because the lower energy costs result in lower housing costs. "Affordability is an important motive behind this initiative. By reducing the monthly costs in this way, we can really mean something for our tenants," said Dick Tromp. Depending on roof space, up to eight solar panels have been installed since 2017.
Sustainability Ambition
Krista Walter has succeeded Dick Tromp as director-director of Kennemer Wonen since October 1, 2020. She also takes over when it comes to reducing CO2 emissions. And is proud of the initiative and the acceleration that has been made. "The installation of solar panels fits perfectly with the sustainability ambitions we strive for as a corporation. This year we want to achieve an average energy label A for our rental properties. This puts us well ahead in the sector, but we also have to since by 2050 all homes must be CO2 neutral."
From A to Z
Director Bauke Bakker of Ecorus Home: 'We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to have solar panels installed. Even people without a house to buy or without their own financial resources. Ecorus Home takes care of the entire solar energy process from A to Z. Installation only takes half a day. After installation, tenants can see via their own personal page in the app or via the website what the solar panels are generating each day.'
