Vegetable processor Hessing’s mission is to make healthy eating easy. With Europe’s most sustainable Groente VersFabriek, the company is taking important steps in the area of sustainability. From January 1, 2024, for example, Hessing will purchase energy generated at Zonnepark Haghorst for a period of ten years. Ecorus guided Hessing in the realization of the agreement.
A Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) is an agreement in which companies purchase solar energy at a fixed price for 5 to 20 years, often from solar parks or large rooftops with solar panels. These agreements help control energy costs and achieve ESG goals, such as at Hessing. ”This agreement is a milestone for our company and confirms our commitment to sustainability,” said Hans Hessing, one of the three owners of the family business along with his two brothers. “With this step, we secure a green future and contribute to a healthier Netherlands.”
Thijs van Oirschot, initiator of Zonnepark Haghorst, adds, “The cooperation with Hessing is a great example of how local, sustainable energy projects and progressive companies can strengthen each other.” Haghorst Solar Park has a capacity of over 40 MegaWatts, a good portion of which Hessing is now buying (totaling some 6 GWh).
As process supervisor, Ecorus played a key role in making this agreement a reality. Ecorus assessed several potential PV projects for suitability for Hessing. This included looking at the location, start of production and the desired and available volume . “Our expertise in guiding such processes and introducing interested corporate led to a successful completion of this CPPA,” said Mike Dusseldorp, Head of PPA and Energy Market at Ecorus.
At its brand-new location in Greenport Venlo, Hessing already generates its own energy with nearly 12,000 solar panels. In combination with the CPPA agreement, the company is now making optimal use of solar energy. “This step underlines what we as Hessing want to stand for and highlights our industry leadership in sustainability,” concludes Hans Hessing.
