Solar panels are hot

Unfortunately, we hear it more frequently over time. Fires being linked to solar panels. But is that actually justified? And what do we do to prevent fires? Fires are often wrongly linked to solar panels. However, sometimes fires do occur due to solar panels. To reduce this risk and actually virtually eliminate it with this, we take the following steps:

Prevention Steps

  1. We place solar panels on the roof tiles so that the inverters and connectors have sufficient space and can easily dissipate their heat. Fires in solar installations occur mainly when solar panels cannot get rid of heat properly. This occurs mainly with in-roof systems where solar panels are installed in the roof. This leaves little to no ventilation space and makes it difficult for heat to escape. The solar panels also impede extinguishing the fire because the entire roof is covered.
  2. Our staff is experienced, skilled and knowledgeable. We deliver quality and are ISO 9001 certified and have the Zonnekeur Installateur seal of approval. In addition, solar installations we deliver are randomly inspected by an independent certified company.
  3. Ecorus uses connectors of the same brand. When different brands of connectors are used, they are not always interchangeable. This increases the risk of fire.
  4. Space is left between solar installations on adjacent roofs.
  5. After installation, we take photos that are then reviewed remotely by engineers.
  6. We work as much as possible with prefabricated extension (cables) rather than placing connectors on cables on site. This is more error-prone.
  7. For string inverters, we run the DC cables separately through the roof so that fire cannot easily spread from inside to outside or vice versa.
  8. On flat roofs, the solar panels are installed with a slope angle. This provides sufficient ventilation space to dissipate heat. We also work with micro-inverters. These work with lower operating voltages and are therefore also (fire) safer.
