120 MW in 1.5 years: how PowerField and Ecorus are accelerating renewable success
A bomb in the field, a bottleneck on the electricity grid; when building solar parks, unexpected challenges are more often the rule than the exception. Yet PowerField and Ecorus tackle these hurdles with pragmatism and determination. Since joining forces, they have overcome obstacles together with one clear goal: delivering top-quality renewable energy projects. This partnership is built on expertise, flexibility, and a shared vision for the future. Because true sustainable progress is never achieved alone.
Founded in 2015, PowerField began its journey by developing ground-mounted solar parks. By 2019, their focus had shifted to operating their own solar parks and creating large-scale energy storage systems. To date, PowerField has developed 30 solar parks, 9 of which they operate themselves, with another 7 under construction.
A milestone project is their Wanneperveen energy storage system, with a capacity of 52 megawatt-hours. It is the largest co-location site in the Netherlands, combining renewable energy generation with storage to manage the challenges of our country’s electricity grid more effectively.
PowerField is also making strides in EV infrastructure through its subsidiary PowerGo, which is rolling out charging stations in the Netherlands and across Europe, including Belgium, Spain, and Denmark.
A partnership built on ambition
The collaboration between PowerField and Ecorus began with a letter of intent (LOI) and a shared ambition to develop 128 MW of renewable energy projects together. In just 1.5 years, this partnership has already delivered approximately 120 MW across three consecutive projects. This strong foundation underscores a deep commitment to innovation and renewable energy growth.
More than just EPC
Ecorus’ role extends well beyond traditional engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). As a development, engineering, procurement, and construction (DEPC) partner, Ecorus supports PowerField throughout the entire development phase, ensuring projects are Ready to Build. Whether it’s addressing unexpected challenges like unexploded ordnance or resolving grid bottlenecks, Ecorus works proactively to keep projects on track.
This comprehensive approach makes Ecorus a true one-stop solar shop, seamlessly integrating development and engineering expertise.
During the execution of projects, challenges are always inevitable. For example, when a military pipeline was discovered on one of the construction sites, PowerField and Ecorus collaborated closely to find a swift and effective solution.
“We tackled the challenge together and found a solution with minimal delays and risks”, says Jochum van Grinsven, Head of Design and Construction at PowerField. This teamwork, built on trust and shared goals, highlights the strength of their partnership and the value of a solution-oriented mindset.
Quality first
While the projects are still underway, significant progress is already visible. The connection of the first transformer station in Boxmeer has been accomplished, and the Zevent solar park is also nearing completion. In addition, construction of the Sambeeksedijk solar park began in December 2024.
For PowerField, quality is non-negotiable. They conduct rigorous quality checks, including weekly inspections and scope 12 assessments. Technical advisors monitor progress to ensure each park meets the highest standards. “We want to build parks that we can operate seamlessly for the next 20 to 25 years”, says Jochum.
The collaboration with Ecorus ensures these standards are upheld.
“Throughout the entire process, we stay in close contact to make adjustments as needed and avoid surprises.” When asked how likely he is to recommend Ecorus, Jochum rates them an 8 out of 10. “Ecorus’ expertise, teamwork, and solution-oriented mindset make them a reliable partner.”
A shared vision for the future
From Ecorus’ perspective, the partnership is equally rewarding. Felix Dieteren, Account Manager at Ecorus, shares: “Working with PowerField has shown us how strong collaboration can turn challenges into opportunities. By combining our expertise, we’re not only delivering quality solar parks but also pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in renewable energy.”
