More than 25% CO2 reduction through implementation of solar energy in Europe.

In line with the European Green Deal and their net zero ambition, Aldi Nord has committed to reduce their total CO2 emissions by 26% by the end of 2025. To this end, a multi-year framework agreement has been signed with market leader Ecorus to implement solar energy in dozens of stores per year and DCs across Europe. Over the next few years, solar energy will be deployed locally in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Portugal; France is under investigation.

Accelerating towards Net Zero. We Know How.

“We believe that raising the CO2 emissions target will help the European Union achieve climate neutrality by 2050. This supports a clear political framework that will also serve as a basis for our climate activities. By the end of 2025, ALDI NORD Group aims to reduce operational emissions from its sites by more than 26% compared to 2016. These actions will enable ALDI to achieve its vision of ‘net zero’.”

Ecorus Solar Deployment

Leader in Solar Deploymenty and Life Cycle Management

With solar energy projects in 2020, 2021 and 2022, Ecorus manifests itself as a leader in the implementation of large-scale solar energy for Aldi Netherlands. For each site, the specialized solar energy company is responsible for all the individual steps in the process: development, engineering, construction, maintenance and management. This includes life cycle management and periodic integration of innovations to continuously optimize the systems.

At every location and country the same high standard .

Throughout the entire life cycle, Ecorus is constantly thinking about optimizations through charging stations, carports and other innovations. It is very important to Aldi that the implementation of the installation is carried out at every location and in every country with the same high standard of quality and safety. In addition, Aldi attaches great importance to the uniform “way of working” which at Ecorus takes place in 4 phases:

Contract

Understand the technical, legal, process differences in each country

Development

Retrieve all data and create engineering designs: various documents and analysis on opportunities by location

Operations

Procurement and logistics in a volatile market, export at a high pace in each country and high quality standard

Maintainance

One overview of CO2 reduction and performance of PV systems and advice on scaling up a system (adding EV, repowering, etc.)
