Ecorus and Fastned take successful collaboration beyond the border

After years of involvement in CPPA projects in the Netherlands, Ecorus is now also supporting the delivery and structuring of a CPPA in Belgium. In doing so, Ecorus is bringing its experience in connecting renewable energy generation and electric mobility beyond the Netherlands.

Ecorus has played an active role in Belgium in bringing together all parties involved, as well as in the preparation, structuring and final design of the CPPA. In doing so, the company is taking the next step in a collaboration with Fastned that has already proven itself over several years and projects in the Netherlands.

The move into Belgium demonstrates how Ecorus supports clients with complex CPPA transactions outside the Netherlands as well. While the collaboration with Fastned in the Netherlands had already taken shape through a range of projects and roles, that accumulated experience has now also been applied in Belgium.

In previous projects in the Netherlands, Ecorus fulfilled a variety of roles. On three occasions, Ecorus acted as the builder of the project, and in two of those cases also as the developer, both for a ground-mounted solar park and for a rooftop project for one of Ecorus’ logistics real estate partners. In all of these projects, Ecorus played an active role in the preparation and structuring of the CPPA. This meant that Ecorus was involved both as the EPC contractor and as CPPA consultant, helping to shape the contracts with all parties involved. In an earlier project, Ecorus acted solely as the party bringing stakeholders together, without being involved as either CPPA consultant or EPC contractor. That resulted in Fastned’s first CPPA linked to a wind project.

In Belgium, Ecorus once again brought together the relevant parties and, in its role as CPPA consultant, was closely involved in the preparation and structuring of the agreement. Roland van der Put, Head of Energy Management at Fastned, said: “We are building a network powered entirely by renewable energy. That requires long-term agreements with local producers, so that wherever we operate, we can contribute to the energy transition. Ecorus’ ability to support us in this across Europe makes them a valuable partner in our mission.”

For Ecorus, the Belgian project shows that the value of collaboration does not lie in one fixed role, but in the ability to make the right contribution to each individual project. In most cases, that means acting as the builder of the energy project, combined with CPPA consultancy services. In other cases, Ecorus takes on a purely connecting and structuring role within a CPPA process. Mike Dusseldorp, Head of PPA and Energy Markets at Ecorus, said: “What matters most to us is supporting the client in the role that best fits the project at that moment. Being able to support this CPPA process in Belgium is fully aligned with Ecorus’ European expansion in recent years. Alongside Belgium, we see significant opportunities in other countries, including in our currently largest growth market, Germany.

This development underlines how electric mobility and solar energy are becoming increasingly interconnected in the energy transition. The growth of electric driving requires reliable, renewable sources of energy, while solar power only reaches its full potential when it directly supports smart and scalable consumption. It is precisely in that connection that the strength of this collaboration lies, with Ecorus and Fastned showing that this future is not something for tomorrow, but something already taking shape today.
